In this project we propose to implement in Romania the research directions recently identified on a European level within the European Concerted Action AROMIS (Assessment and Reduction of heavy metal input into agro-ecosystems), of which two of the partners of this project were part of the European consortium .
From the perspective of PNCDI2, the project addresses the following priorities:
5.1.9 Reduction of residues and contaminants in the entire food chain 5.1.17 Interdisciplinary research on soil, plant, animal, food and human correlations
3.3.5. The creation of databases and georeferenced meta-data, of mathematical models and the infrastructure of the decision-making cycle, intended for the conservation, reconstruction and sustainable use of the components of biological and ecological diversity.
The objectives of the project are the following:
Evaluation of the balance of metals at the national and regional level
Optimization of integrated management at the farm level depending on the content of heavy metals in soil and plants
Development of the alert system at the national level.
The objectives will be achieved through an interdisciplinary research implemented by a consortium of five institutions through research centers specialized both in the use of mathematical modeling and remote sensing techniques in assisting decisions, as well as in the optimization of production technologies. The final products of the project are:
1) an expert system for farm level regarding the optimization of technological elements under the conditions of the presence of heavy metals, experienced and validated,
2) A national level alert system regarding the changes in the risk associated with the mobility of metals as a result of the variation of large-scale natural and human control factors, experienced and verified. National, regional and local end users of the project’s products are explicitly consulted during their development activities. A final result that will open new perspectives for applied research is also
3) Ways to optimize the soil monitoring system and ways of coupling it with other monitoring systems in order to feed an integrated informational system.
