The center was founded by Prof. Dr. Dan Manoleli (1942-2010) to catalyze, from an ecological perspective, interdisciplinary cooperation between scientific fields that address environmental problems.

When the center was established, it had the approval of the managements of the faculties of Biology, Geology and Chemistry. Administratively, the center belongs to the Faculty of Biology.

• The specific difference of the center

  1) that it promotes the most advanced ecological theories and at the same time recognizes the usefulness and legitimacy of a diversity of scientific and institutional approaches in the field of the environment as scientifically and institutionally irreducible to the most advanced ecological theories
  2) that it recognizes scientific creativity as a trait of individuals, not of groups
  3) that it clearly separates the scientific side from the ideological side in the problems associated with sustainable development. Therefore, the institutional solutions promoted by the center in its projects support personal creativity, institutional diversity and are permanently adapted to the real situation of the Romanian and international research market.

• Our mission

  The center's mission is to:
  1) fundamental and applied interdisciplinary research activities on environmental problems
  2) organization of practical activities in economic units / public institutions and continuing education on environmental issues
  3) catalyzing the relations between the academic community, civil society, economic and political sectors on environmental issues
  4) providing services to economic and political actors on environmental issues.

• Major research directions

  At the present time (2007 - present) the major directions in which we run projects are: biogeochemistry, management of biological diversity, theoretical biology (philosophy of biology).
  The valorization of the results is done through studies for national, European and global institutions (development and evaluation of strategies, policies, economic instruments), knowledge transfer activities to economic agents (expert systems, procedures, specialized software, consultancy for the use of renewable resources, consultancy for the management of biological diversity, consulting for the restoration of ecological systems).
